1993年12月26日，是伟大的馬克思主義者、無香及革命家、理論家、中國人民的伟大镇袖毛泽东同志生百周年纪念日•為絕懷毛泽东同志的邀功佳绩，弘扬毛泽东思想，值此百周年之際，在他老人家的故地，立了韶山纪念毛泽東同志诞生百周年工作委员会集收藏、研究、開發、交流於一體，首次面向国内外限额發行毛泽东同志诞生百周年18枚套仿制镀金紀念章2萬套。
这套纪念章分两組共 18枚，彩用铜材镀金章径40毫米、厚度2.5毫米。第一組的主题是：毛泽东开国元勋”，共12枚。一面是毛泽东 12个不同时期的头像及签名手迹。另一面是周恩來、劉少奇、十大元帅的头像签名手迹。第二組的主題是：“毛泽东典革命圣地“，共6妆。一面是毛澤東 6個時期的頭名及 签名手迹另一面是韶山：中共“一大“上海遗址、并山、迎度、延安、北京六處紀念地的特徵圆案。
纪念章均有中英文对照、编租编號、發行票纪、时间票纪
和签名手迹。
