袁大头是民国时期主要流通货币之一，“袁大头”是对袁世凯像系列硬币的口语俗称，严谨点说叫“袁世凯像背嘉禾银币”。北洋政府为了整顿币制，划一银币，于民国三年（1914年）二月，颁布《国币条例》十三条，决定实行银本位制度。《国币条例》规定：“以库平纯银六钱四分八厘为价格之单位，定名为圆”，“一圆银币，总重七钱二分，银八九，铜一一”，“一圆银币用数无限制”，即以一圆银币为无限法偿的本位贷币。根据这一规定，于1914年12月及1915年2月， 先后由造币总厂及江南造币厂开铸一圆银币，币面镌刻袁世凯头像，俗称“袁头币”或“袁大头”。

According to this regulation, in December 1914 and February 1915, the Mint General and Jiangnan Mint successively minted one yuan silver coins with the head of Yuan Shikai engraved on the surface, commonly known as "Yuan Tou Coin" or "Yuan Datou".

我公司近期征集了一组“袁大头”，共3枚，重79.7g，直径3.2cm。第一枚为“中华民国三年签字版袁大头”：该币最显著特征就是币的正面袁世凯头像的右侧有英文“L.GIORGI”或简写“L.G”字样，是为了纪念袁世凯银元刻模的意大利雕刻师鲁尔治·乔治，在币面四点钟位置，铸有其签名“L.GIORGI”。此版由天津造币厂试铸，并未流通，发行量不过百枚，存世量更是稀少。它除了其钱币自身所含有的艺术性价值以外，更加重要的是因为其钱币的性质与其他袁大头银元不同。民国三年签字版袁大头银元，归属于样币的一种，在当时也就一共试铸了一千多枚，能够完整留存至今的银币并不多见。2006年中国嘉德春拍上，曾以831万元的高价成交一枚，目前就连拍卖会上都难得一见。第二枚为“中华民国三年苏维埃版袁大头”，苏维埃版袁大头是民国二十年发行的，当时国民党反动派对苏区实行军事围剿和经济封锁，红色政权对敌斗争的环境十分恶劣，红军为了适应对敌斗争的需要，就把民国三年打土豪时缴获的袁大头旧银元，在上面盖上了“苏维埃”的印章。见证中华苏维埃共和国那段峥嵘岁月的苏维埃袁大头，是一件珍贵的革命文物。那时，老百姓习惯把旧银元叫做“大洋”，苏区发行的银元叫“红洋”。国民党政权不能容忍在市场上流通印有“苏维埃”字样的银币，一旦被没收，就会回炉熔化。数量稀少，价值不菲。第三枚为袁大头甘肃版，袁大头甘肃版，顾名思义，出自民国时期甘肃铸币厂，甘肃大头银质含量虽略低，但因其制作精美，特点鲜明，版式繁多，发行量少，深受银币爱好者喜爱，价格也高于中央版。袁大头作为中国近代革命与货币史研究的珍贵实物与依据，受到海内外藏家的追捧。因为在收藏界，一向对重大历史事件非常敏感的金银币收藏市场，都会赋予藏品独特的价值。行情也会顺势而动，是投资收藏的绝佳品种。再加上战乱的影响，民国时期的银币损失惨重，如今已经很少见到了。

The second one is the "Soviet version of Yuan Datou in the third year of the Republic of China". The Soviet version of Yuan Datou was issued in the twentieth year of the Republic of China. At that time, the Kuomintang reactionary forces implemented military encirclement and economic blockade in the Soviet region, and the environment for the Red regime to fight against the enemy was very harsh. In order to adapt to the needs of the enemy, the Red Army stamped the "Soviet" seal on the old silver coins of Yuan Datou that were seized during the fight against the tycoons in the third year of the Republic of China.
